The perception gap: ten questions to ask yourself first
The gap between what leaders believe is true and what the workforce experiences is the leading indicator of performance decay. Answer each statement twice — as you see it, and as you believe your workforce would see it. Where the two diverge, you have found the place to look.
These ten statements are drawn from section seven of the NSC Group whitepaper Performance that holds. They are written for reflection rather than scoring: this is a structured conversation starter for a leadership team, not a psychometric instrument, and it records only what you believe your workforce would say.

03 — Discretionary effort
The effort people put in beyond their role description is offered, not extracted.
04 — Adaptive collaboration

05 — Psychological safety
Someone junior could disagree with me in a meeting this week without it costing them anything.
06 — Role connection
People can explain, in their own words, how their job connects to the corporate plan.
07 — Leader visibility
Our leaders are visible in the parts of the organisation where the work is physically done.
08 — Closing the loop
The last time we asked people for their view, something visibly changed as a result.
